About NRP:

Naturopathic Reproductive Psychiatry is a burgeoning specialty in holistic, compassionate, individualized health care. Reproductive life transitions including puberty, pregnancy/postpartum, menopause and andropause often introduce mental and emotional challenges. These changes encompass shifts in identity, how we relate to our community roles, and  unique changes in hormonal, immune, and physical terrains. Naturopathic Medicine is well-suited to address the layered impacts of these changes by assessing and treating root causes, nurturing whole-person health and employing a precise, multi-modality treatment plan.

Naturopathic Health Care encompasses an individualized, whole-person philosophy of healing based on six core principles and using the most effective, least-invasive interventions.

Reproductive Health is about cultivating wellness in the hormonal and physical planes of the reproductive system. Sometimes termed 'Generative Health,' which acknowledges that this axis of wellness is greater than the role of reproduction and inclusive of the spectrum of experiences with gender, sexuality, and our relationship to what we generate.

Psychiatric and Psychological Care addresses the landscape of mental, emotional, and spiritual health. Naturopathic Medicine cultivates mental wellness and resilience with tools including but beyond psychotropic medications, including correcting underlying dysfunction, applying botanical medicines, homeopathy and energetic techniques, using structural realignment, and targeted nutrition, among other individualized approaches.

About this Site:
This website is a labor of love, dedication, and hope founded by Emily Whitson, a student of Naturopathic Medicine and Integrative Mental Health care in Portland, Oregon.  As mentioned above, the transitions of puberty, the perinatal period, and other hormonal transitions throughout life are discrete periods requiring increased support and resources, yet conventional healthcare often fails to effectively bridge care through these transitions. This has created a 'vacuum' between the increased need for support and the decreased support available for individuals and families experiencing these transitions.

Accordingly, the mission of this site is to build more effective, justice-oriented support into the transitions in our communities to begin to meet the increased need for support. While Emily is a student, she is pursuing this mission by developing a centralized site for education and resources  for both patients and providers regarding all things Naturopathic Reproductive Psych!  Upon becoming a licensed Naturopathic physician, Emily will offer targeted holistic care for adolescents, peripartum families, older adults, and trans and queer communities.

This site is for:

  • Naturopaths, midwives and nurse-midwives, psychiatrists, psychologists, counselors and therapists, social workers, OBGYNs, home-visitors, advocates and activists, nutritionists, herbalists, coaches, and many other professionals interested in developing a deeper understanding of the medical and sociological care for this patient population. We look to build relationships among organizations, clinics and practitioners currently doing this work to serve their communities, with special attention to those offering this work in an actively anti-oppressive way, and to the work of traditional and indigenous healers that have cultivated this field and continue to prioritize community health over individualism.

  • Patients, parents, grandparents, friends, community members, and activists seeking holistic, relevant information about this field to understand their conditions or the circumstances of those they love, and know which questions to ask of their providers.
